The Solar Train Project is an international, multi-disciplinary effort, combining knowledge and advocacy for solar power with that for effective rail transportation.
We love Trains.. and our challenge is to build the future of rail.
Long ago, trains were created to run on steel tracks, originally with steam motors, running on burnt wood or coal. Over a period of time, the motors were changed to diesel and electric. Using electricity was a huge step forward for trains, as it was cleaner and required less labour. Now most electric trains are run from the general electricity grid. This website asks the question: How can we turn solar radiation into electric power for these trains?
